Yon Mon, aka Roy Fletcher, releases The Sun Still Shines, a ‘lost’ Stone Roses track from 1986 raising funds for charity.

The stand alone single comes hot on the heels of the release of his debut album, You Bedda Believe It, however has been in developmenrt for some time. As long-term fans of the Stone Roses will be aware, The Sun Still Shines was originally recorded by the band as a demo at Drone Studios, Chorlton Manchester in 1986 and was played live up until 1988.

Bootlegs of the track as a demo, and live exist and it’s long been a fan favourite. Why it was never recorded is a mystery, some saying it was too similar to other tracks or it wasn’t considered strong enough with debut album producer John Leckie confirming it wasn’t put forward for the record.

Fletcher says of the track, ‘It’s always been a favourite for die hard fans. I’ve always wanted to bring it back to life but record it how it may have sounded back in 1986 if finished’. In previous band, The Shed Project, the main man often used music to support charity, and with this release he saw an opportunity, he says, ‘With it being a Stone Roses cover i wanted to make use of the exposure, so i’ve teamed up with Manchester homeless charity Mustard Tree to raise funds and create awareness as they are doing great things in the North West combatting poverty and preventing homelessness.

The single, was recorded at The Ivy Studio Bolton with Fletcher’s long time collaborator Danny Hayes, formerly of The Jade Assembly, and also features 18 year old Cole Humphys on guitar.

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
