Winter Festivals Heat Up: Why Gothenburg’s Viva Sounds Demands Your Attention

Don’t pack away your festival gear just yet. Winter is here, so why waste your hard-earned time and money on expensive weak beer and German Christmas market bratwurst served by a bored retailer from somewhere local, when you can spend a similar amount of dough to visit Sweden’s second city for some real winter magic?

Viva Sounds has firmly established itself as a hub for authentic, boundary-pushing gigs, bridging the local underground scene with international acts across both conventional and unconventional venues – including trams and ferries. It’s a fantastic local-feel indie festival.

Viva Sounds 2025 features over one hundred gigs spanning various genres, spread across fifteen venues in Gothenburg’s Majorna district.

Last year saw the inclusion of a British night hosted by This Feeling, and they return once more to bring UK acts The Slates, The Cases, Long Island and PG Carletta. Radio X’s John Kennedy will once again take on hosting duties, lending his industry expertise to what promises to be a standout moment in the festival calendar.

Taking place over the last weekend of November, you can get cheap direct flights to Gothenburg Landvetter from many UK airports, and you can get yourselves tickets to Viva Sounds from their website.

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
