Out Now
A creative spark has once again been ignited by Vancouver’s alternative rock outfit Sunday Morning as they release their long-awaited new single, Carry The Sky. As a band that has a penchant for compelling and vulnerable songwriting, this song proves to be a heartfelt, melodious and soul stirring act of remembrance for lost love ones.
Vancouver-based musical project Sunday Morning is the creative vehicle of front man Bruce Wilson. As a creative renaissance finally overcame an extended self-inflicted hiatus from the music industry, Sunday Morning announced itself to the world in 2016 with a critically acclaimed self-titled album. This was a collection of songs which evolved through an abstract range of influences which continued to filter through their subsequent EP in 2020, Consequence Of Love, which was full of equally complex layers. Louder Than War caught up with Sunday Morning when they released their single Junky Don’t Care back in 2022. It’s been a while since then but a flame of inspiration has now led to the release of new single Carry The Sky.
Carry The Sky serves as a cathartic outpouring of emotion following the loss of two people who were very close to Bruce. Opening with a melody which glistens with a melancholy vibe, Bruce’s emotionally charged vocals carry us through a voyage of personal grief which nonetheless seems to be enveloped with a sense of acceptance and ultimately positivity as the rich cinematic soundscapes morph into soaring and beautifully uplifting chorus lines sprinkled with some glorious harmonies. As Bruce sings “I still believe in a love that holds us close” and “maybe I can finally stop fighting the war that’s going on in my heart”, it feels like the ultimate tribute to love, loss, and the weight of memory that never fully lifts.
As Bruce explains, “Sunday Morning has always been a very personal project and the subject matter of the songs come from my direct experiences though they’re often masked in allegory and poetic license. Carry the Sky differs from previous songs because it is, at its essence, a tribute to two beautiful people I loved dearly who died and left intangible chasms in my life that will never be filled. I didn’t want this song to be stuck in my grief but to have a sense of celebration for these two lives who brought so much love, compassion and wisdom into my life.”

Produced and mixed by Jamey Koch (The Tragically Hip, Copyright) at Bryan Adams’ Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, this new single features Bruce on vocals and keyboards, Kevin Rose on guitars, Chris Gestrin on piano and keyboards, Jamey Koch on bass, additional guitars, and backing vocals, with Share Dada on drums and Lone Willow adding some ghostly harmonies.
