UK Punk photo book almost sells out of first press in under a week.

The new book, Shot From Both Sides – Photos of UK Punk Gigs 1981-86 by Paul May, published on 1 December has almost sold out of the first edition already.

Taking its title from a clever deviation of the classic Magazine tune, this book from Sealed Records, who have been re-releasing hard to find anarcho-punk records and demos, is the coffee table book for people who don’t have coffee tables. I’ve had a peak at the digital version and sized at 232x297mm says “big” to me. So, what is inside this mighty tome that will be adorning the scaffold plank on brieze blocks of your aging crusty?

Graced by an iconic image of Icons Of Filth frontman Stig on the cover, there are some truly great photos taken by Paul May – many unseen before – that manage to capture the excitement, energy and fun that people were having in that period.   See list below for who is captured.

The photos are accompanied by written contributions from a significant number of punk band members from that period.

Apparently Sealed Records are already “running very low” on copies of the book, with “most of the first press run spoken for”. It’s a massive tome with nearly 500 pages and apparently weighs in at 2.6 kilos printed in top quality stock.

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
