Wiltshire based duo Shapes Like People return with Supergirl, their firt new material since their debut album Ticking Haze.

2025 began with Shapes Like People, The Shop Window’s lead vocalist/guitarist Carl Mann and his Kiwi wife Kat, coming together musically for their collection Ticking Haze. As the year draws to a close, they realease the first single to be taken from their next album, Under the Rainbow, which is due for release in April 2026.

If the track is familiar, there is a reason for that. Supergirl is a cheeky adaptation of the 1969 song Superman by the Texan band The Clique, possibily most famously covered by R.E.M. initially a hidden track on their 1986 album Life’s Rich Pageant and later released as a single.

Speaking to the husband and wife team of Carl and Kat Mann, the explain the track came about over a Friday night pint. With Kat, currently working on visual effects for the upcoming Supergirl movie, as a bit of a joke Carl suggested covering Superman… with a twist! The following morning the idea was taking shape as Carl put his own spin on the arrangement.

Carl says that tracking down the right people for clearance took some investigation, but thankfully he did, and with the blessing of relevant parties Supergirl kicks off a string of four single releases, in the lead up their next long player…
