Roger Eno talks to John Robb about his stunning new album, his are of creativity and the inspiration of the flatlands of his native East Anglia.

Roger Eno represents something fascinating – the other brother ( not the third uncle of course but the younger brother of Brian) in a famous creative family, who has carved out his own remarkable path. His beautiful new album Without Wind / Without Air was released on 31 October 2025 on Deutsche Grammophon. It’s a great atmospheric set of songs driven by his haunting emotive piano lines that paint evocative soundscapes. In this collection of pieces Roger, who likes to see himself as a ‘deconstructor’ strips his music down to the core emotional piano lines in an exercise in minimalism that says so much with so little. Often existing in the no boundary space between sound track and classical this is a timeless collection of spectral beauty.

This is his third album for Deutsche Grammophon following The Turning Year (2022) and the skies, they shift like chords (2023), showing how he continues to evolve and find new audiences. The album tackles themes of climate emergency and Gaza – but also hope and peace, blending classical, folk, and electronic elements.

There’s a compelling family story here. The record features Roger’s daughters Cecily and Lotti Eno, with Cecily handling all album art, photography and video direction (she does the same for uncle Brian). There’s a track There Was A Ship that Cecily performed with both her father and uncle Brian at the amphitheatre of Herodes Atticus in Athens – their first joint concert together as a family.

Roger has had a satisfyingly wide-ranging career too with Peter Hammill, The Orb, Lou Reed, Jarvis Cocker, Beck. He was in ambient supergroup The Channel Light Vessel with Laraaji and others, plus three years as Musical Director for Tim Robbins and his band.
