New Conflict EP The Collusion Exclusion on 10″ vinyl featuring remixes by Youth (Killing Joke) and Sid Truelove (Rubella Ballet)
June brought the very sad news that Conflict singer Colin Jerwood (pictured) had passed away and left punks across the globe shocked. This came hot on the heels of the release of their last album This Much Remains. Adding to a huge musical legacy, Cadiz Records are releasing a new single from that album, due out on 31 October.
As I said in my review of the album, Collusion Exclusion fits with the general style of 1988’s The Final Conflict album but with better production. The song, while ebullient and rejecting authority also questions the effectiveness of what used to be a countercultural movement. We’re fighting “The same old system” but we’re still singing “the same old song” implying this isn’t achieving much.
The 10″ vinyl features 4 songs in total, including remixes of songs from the album. We are excited to hear what dubmaster and Killing Joke bass player Youth has made of the Clash influenced Statement Of Intent and Colin’s old mate Sid Truelove (Rubella Ballet) has done with When The Lights Go Out. Sid, who introduced Colin to dub, said “I picked the track as there was something in Colin’s words that spoke to me lyrically. Rest in peace dear friend.” Killing Joke bass player and music producer Youth has done some sublime floaty dub meets dance remixes of songs by Killing Joke and RDF (whose last 2 albums he produced), among others.
‘The Collusion Exclusion’ track-listing:
- The Collusion Exclusion
- When The Lights Go Out (Sid Truelove Dub Mix)
- Intent Youth (Vocal Radio Dub)
- Road Trip
A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
