Glen Matlock tells John Robb what it was like to be a teenage Sex Pistol.
On November 8th Sky Channel will be showing ‘I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol’. The film is based on the novel written by Glen Matlock and follows his journey as a founding member of the influential punk band the Sex Pistols.
Having co-written ten of twelve songs on their only studio album, NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, Matlock’s contribution was essential to the band’s success. Experience the Pistols’ rise to global
infamy with an honest, insightful account of a group of malcontents, determined to change the music business and to attack hypocrisy and stale conventions in society at large. Glen describes in detail the mindset of the UK in the early 70s and divulges a wealth of information;
the search for a singer, Steve Jones’ thievery, the exploding punk scene, and a bleak backdrop providing a contrast to the excitement and energy of Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s shop. The public will now have a chance to hear the story, not just from a member
of the band, but also from a man whose contributions have been exceptionally downplayed.
In the interview Glen talks about the dynamics of the band, Malcolm and Vivienne who he knew before the rest of the band when he worked in the shop, how the Pistols sound worked and how they wrote many of those classics and what it was like to be in the eye of the storm in this in depth and revealing interview that like the film places the bassist back into middle of the story along with the rest of the band in one of the greatest tales in British pop culture.
We ask what it was like to be in Robin Hood and his merry men and if he sometimes just wants the backbiting to stop and give his former singer a big cuddle!
