Anglo-Maltese quartet GENN herald a new chapter in their relatively short existence through the release of their new single, Reverberations, as well as announcing some UK tour dates. It’s their first new music since their 2023 debut album, unum, and the song’s brooding and ethereal soundscapes continue their quest for creative freedom which defies any categorisation within a musical genre.
As a collective sisterhood of like-minded musicians with multi-national backgrounds, GENN have always defied any form of categorisation which is something the four band members have continued to celebrate. Their debut album released in 2023, unum, certainly proved beyond all doubt that GENN embrace so many wide and eclectic musical styles. And now the band finally release their first new music since that time through their new single Reverberations.
This brand new chapter for GENN is heralded by a collaboration on Reverberations with Savages / Jehnny Beth producer Johnny Hostile which has clearly been built on a mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work. As Johnny says in terms of his feeling for working on this new single, “It’s got that rush I love in music – chaotic, beautiful, and impossible to resist, working on it felt like chasing pure energy, capturing something wild but true.”
Reverberations is awash with cinematic imagery as Leona Farrugia’s somewhat etherial and sometimes operatic style vocals wrap around Leanne Zammit’s brooding bass lines, Sofia Rosa Cooper’s resonant drumming and Janelle Borg’s spectral and often disarming guitar lines which ebb and flow in line with the mood of the song. It’s a song which flows with an emotional charge and a vibe which shifts effortlessly between beauty and melancholy, transporting the listener into a whole new dimension. There is little doubt that Johnny hostile’s production on the song has tapped into the band’s typically idiosyncratic sound with great effect.
The single is also accompanied by its own visualiser, directed by Leona and filmed on their founding island of Malta, building on their post-colonial roots. This is something that echoes strongly through the diverse references of their sound, as Janelle explains: “In an era where people from migrant backgrounds have their culture and their music appropriated – but then discarded or even targeted – and in a socio-political climate that’s far from kind to people who look like us, we’re here to embrace what makes us different. We’re here to share it with the world – and stand on stage and have our voices, our music, our culture and the core of who we are represented without fear.”

Aside from a recent appointment as artist patrons for the Music Venue Trust, the band have also been commissioned by Brighton’s The Old Market venue to craft and present an immersive audiovisual performance exploring their unique position within colonialism which is being presented on 23rd November 2025. This will be followed by UK headline tour dates in early 2026, offering the first chance to hear GENN’s new material. The dates are as follows:

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
