Los Angeles rockers CRYMWAV unleash their new single Speak No Evil with former Damned guitarist/ keyboard player Roman Jugg adding his own touch to the proceedings. It’s a song fashioned with the bands own signature twist on a classic rock sound and sets the tone for their forthcoming album.
CRYMWAV (pronounced Crimewave) is the brainchild of lead singer/songwriter Roger Deering. The band were formed in Los Angeles in 2022 from the ashes of glam rockers Smash Fashion with roots very much set in the American hardcore scene of the 1980’s but also citing influences such punk, post -punk and goth alongside bands such as Thin Lizzy, UFO and The Ruts. As to their incarnation, Roger explains it as follows, “I was staying in London about four years ago when a songwriting spree hit me. I wanted to channel the spirit of bands from that area – Hawkwind, The Clash, Killing Joke, Motörhead. I came back to LA with a fistful of songs, and CRYMWAV was born.”

Alongside Roger, CRYMWAV also comprises former Smash Fashion band mate Lloyd Stuart Casson on lead guitar, Pat Muzingo (Junkyard) on drums and Bruce Braddock on bass guitar, Roger’s old sparring partner from Miami punks The Drills. In 2023 they released their first EP, a bass-heavy hook-laded collection of six songs entitled 24/7, named after the door number on their downtown rehearsal room.
Now in 2025, having already released two subsequent singles, Contagious and Sense Of Adventure, CRYMWAV release new single Speak No Evil together with a video directed by former The Icarus Line frontman Joe Cardamone. It’s a song which also features the keyboard talent of former Damned guitarist/ keyboard player Roman Jugg.
Speak No Evil is a dark and moody, hard-hitting blast of rock which holds no prisoners. With trademark gritty vocals, hard driving rhythms, incendiary guitar break and a sprinkling of gothic undertones through Roman’s piano/ harpsichord break, it’s a song about creeping fascism, big tech, and the sense that you’re always being watched, so watch what you say.

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital.
