Glimmerpit have appeared out of the endless pit of great Manchester bands with a fully formed, rasping bass driven song that is in the grand tradition of the Death To Trad Rock and Fall type bands but with their own caustic twist. This is a killer tune with hilarious lyrics taking down those grumpy old men who infest Facebook and the nether regions of pubs moaning on about the good old days with their selective memories. ‘Back In My Day’ is not only a thrilling rush of pop/noise it also nails the narrative and the DIY video with its homemade moustaches and old codger stylings is a perfect match.

People like you were smothered to death at birth.
Load of woke nonsense, you bloody snowflakes,
How’d you crawl out from the sea, onto the earth?
Back in my day we were paid by the tears
That dripped down our sad little faces.
No labour laws, no breaks, we worked
‘Til we bled, ‘til we were dead
And we were grateful.
(grateful)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
I’m fine and so’s my wife.
Back in my day, things were right, all right?
I could be a sexist bigot with impunity.
Now I can’t even physically chastise my kids,
And I wanna go back to the ‘70s.
Back in my day, back in my day,
No such thing as a gender identity.
Now I got to be nice
To all these autistic lesbians,
I wanna go back to the 70’s.
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
I’m fine and so’s my solicitor.
I wanna go back,
I wanna go back back back,
Back back back to the ‘70s.
I wanna go back,
I wanna go back back back,
Back to where I once belonged, in the ‘70s.
Now I’ve been cancelled by the Twitterati,
All my favourite TV shows are banned.
Back in my day, back in my day, young lady,
You’d have felt the back of my hand.
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
Never did me any harm
(Never did me any harm)
I’m fine and so’s my ex wife.
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
I’m fine
And I don’t,
And I don’t,
And I don’t,
And I don’t,
And I don’t,
And I don’t,
And I don’t need therapy!
A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
