Out Now

The Theatre Workers And Television Union are back with new single, Tiny Shorts, the first since their debut EP, Don’t Look It In The Eye was released in the spring.

TWAT UNION are a London based theatrical feminist punk 6 piece are known for their wild, immersive shows and trademark provocative humour. Despite their on-stage antics, The Twats — as they’re affectionately known — don’t shy away from the important topics including, but not limited to: thigh chafe, urinary tract infections, and people assuming you don’t know how to tune a guitar because you’re a woman.

I was fortuante enough to catch them live earlier in the year and was blown away by the ‘part punk gig / part comedy show’ performance which included a line dance during the second number and much audience interaction throughout. I’ve seen that Twat Union’s gigs are fast becoming the stuff of legend and I’m hoping for another opportunity to see the band again sooner rather than later too…

Whilst there is a lot of humour in the performance and songs there is a purpose too. New single, Tiny Shorts, explain the band, ‘gives a middle finger to all the cat calling and demeaning behaviour we receive if we choose to wear something that makes US feel good,’ continuing, ‘women should be able to wear whatever the hell they want, let it all hang out, and not be mistreated or disrespected. The song is also a pushback against the assumptions that are made about people based on the clothes they choose to wear. If you want to wear tiny shorts that make your bum look amazing while you have thoughts as big as your shorts are small—you can. It’s not a choice you have to make.

The bottom line, Tiny Shorts, is a call to treat women with respect no matter what they are wearing. Take note.

Catch them over the next few days if you get the chance…

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
