Cafe Bleu Special Edition Announced

The long rumoured and eagerly anticipated Special Edition of The Style Council’s debut Café Bleu has been announced and available to pre-order now.

When Paul Weller disbanded The Jam at the height of their fame in 1982, it was nothing short of seismic – a bold, almost reckless act of creative reinvention that stunned fans and critics alike. But out of that audacious decision emerged one of the most inspired pivots in British pop history: The Style Council.

When The Style Council’s debut album Café Bleu was released in 1984, Weller and wing-man Mick Talbot unveiled a cosmopolitan blend of jazz, soul, and pop that felt effortlessly sophisticated and daringly fresh. It confused some… but Café Bleu was more than a debut—it was a statement of intent, redefining what British pop could sound like in a new decade.

The set has been heralded over the last couple of months with reissues of the 7″s of those tracks taken from the album, namely, Speak Like A Child, the A Paris EP (incl Long Hot Summer) and My Ever Changing Moods. The band were so productive at the time, the other singles released prior to the album, Money Go Round and Solid Bond In Your Heart are also included in the set as are those released afterwards, but before 1985’s No 1 collection Our Favourite Shop.

This Special Edition is an absolute treasure trove for Style Council devotees and music lovers alike – it’s an immersive journey into one of the most inventive eras of Paul Weller’s career. This lavish release unveils a wealth of previously unheard material, including early demos, alternate takes, and unreleased songs that showcase the band’s restless drive for experimentation and evolution. Adding even more depth, the set features an extraordinary collection of BBC session and live recordings, capturing the band in full creative flight.

The package is completed with brand new sleevenotes from broadcaster and longtime Café Bleu champion Gary Crowley, offering fresh insight into this timeless classic’s enduring legacy.

The Café Bleu Special Edition is released on January 30th 2026 on Universal Recordings and will be available as a 6 CD set and 3 Vinyl LP’s. Pre order here

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
