Out 19th September

Amelia Coburn, the self-proclaimed folk horror songstress releases new single, Something Wild, her first new material since last year’s celebrated debut album Between The Moon And The Milkman.

Amelia’s star continues to rise; after starting 2025 at SXSW, which was followed by a successful UK tour, she recently appeared duetting with Paul Weller on a cover of Christy Moore’s One Last Cold Kiss on his latest album Find El Dorado… she’s now set to release new single Something Wild and preparing for her biggest London headline show to date at Royal Albert Hall on 24th October.

Supported by PRS Foundation’s Open Fund and inspired by the feminist works of writers like Angela Carter and Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Something Wild is song is for those who feel they have been shackled by modern society’s expectations. Propelled by Ruth Lyon’s cinematic string arrangements and a galloping guitar riff that never lets up, Amelia delivers a spirited alt-folk tune which manages to channel the bold and makes the unusual sound timeless whilst including the sweeping energy of a classic John Barry Bond score.

To accompany the track comes a wonderful Red Riding Hood-inspired, endorphin raising video filmed by Rob Irish as the artist draws inspiration from gothic literature and the shadowy allure of film noir. Something Wild, like many of her songs, has darkness at the heart of it, populated by vivid characters and nocturnal creatures that inhabit the liminal space, or as finely articulated with her debut, “between the moon and the milkman”. This is artfully counterbalanced by Amelia’s down-to-earth charm and wicked sense of humour.

Of the track the Teessider explains, “The women in the fairytales I grew up reading and loving were quite often populated with damsels in distress running away from danger or waiting to be rescued. I wanted to flip that narrative on its head. The protagonist sheds the skin of domestic life, bares her teeth and becomes the very same wolf that the old fables warned us about.”

If Something Wild is anything to go by her second album is going to be something special.

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
