40th Anniversary release of the debut single by Mancunian icons The Stone Roses.

This is the first time this single has had an official re-issue and is a collaboration between Vinyl Revival and the original label Thin Line.

So Young and Tell Me were originally recorded and released in 1985 and produced by Martin Hannett. The original Stone Roses line up was Ian Brown, Andy Couzens, John Squire, Pete Garner and Alan Wren.

Re-issued by kind permission from Thin Line to raise money for Young Lives Versus cancer and other charities and both parties will be donating 100% of the profit.

Thin Line (their original label) have teamed up with Vinyl Revival (fantastic record shop and label based in Manchester) to re-release the lads debut single for the first official release since ’85.

‘So Young’ and ‘Tell Me’ were produced by Martin Hannett (another Mancunian legend who helped to create that early Factory Records vibe) and have a much rawer style than their later material, made during their punkier phase 4 years before the polished sound we all know and love.

The band were also a five piece at the time, the original line up being Ian Brown, John Squire, Andy Couzens, Pete Garner (R.I.P.) and Alan ‘Reni’ Wren.

To top it off and most importantly, 100% of all proceedings of the sales of the limited edition run of 1,500 copies raspberry vinyl will be going to Young Lives vs Cancer (and various other charities).

A Plea From Louder Than War

Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.

To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
