SumWot: Over The Line

Black Country based SumWot release their debut album, over the line after a storming appearance at Rebellion Festival.
Hailing from Wolverhampton, the four piece consist of Alex (Guitar & Vocals), Rowan (Bass & Vocals), ‘Stacey’ (Guitar) and Esme (Drums) taking influence from various sources, naming Black Flag, L7 and Joy Division as along with Post-Punk and RiotGrrrl movements.
Over The Line, recorded and mixed by the legendary Jessica Corcoran, is an accomplished debut for a relatively young band, who to this point have been gigging relentlessly and released a 4 track EP.
Over Again kicks things off with some fucking great sounding drums before the guitar’s arrive, setting the tone for the record. You could be fooled into a false sense of knowing what is to come however as unlike the opening track sang by Alex it’s Rowan that takes the lead on Hunny Bunny.
The pair continue to switch duties throughout the album to great effect. The aforementioned influences are there to hear, Are You Okay? You’re Happy for example beginning with a rumbling Peter Hook bassline and icy guitars which Robert Smith would be proud of.
Particularly favourites on the records are recent single, Whine, taking shots at Social Media and the closing the hypnotic Untitled, which slows the pace down a little and heads into Shoegaze territory behind a shimmering wall of Kevin Shields like guitars.
Well worth checking out… keep your eyes peeled for gigs too!

A Plea From Louder Than War
Louder Than War is run by a small but dedicated independent team, and we rely on the small amount of money we generate to keep the site running smoothly. Any money we do get is not lining the pockets of oligarchs or mad-cap billionaires dictating what our journalists are allowed to think and write, or hungry shareholders. We know times are tough, and we want to continue bringing you news on the most interesting releases, the latest gigs and anything else that tickles our fancy. We are not driven by profit, just pure enthusiasm for a scene that each and every one of us is passionate about.
To us, music and culture are eveything, without them, our very souls shrivel and die. We do not charge artists for the exposure we give them and to many, what we do is absolutely vital. Subscribing to one of our paid tiers takes just a minute, and each sign-up makes a huge impact, helping to keep the flame of independent music burning! Please click the button below to help.
